History
Brooks Associates Racing was formed by team owner John Brooks in the mid-1990’s to field his own racing efforts. Following his retirement in 1999, the team focused its attentions on drivers with a similar background to John’s – underfunded drivers with potential. The team’s mission statement was to provide a quality effort at a cost-effective price.
With that philosophy in place, the team has run a number of young drivers from throughout the world:\
2011 Ryan Phinny, Chase Austin
Ryan showed well at Long Beach in his first Indy Lights race. Chase finished 9th at the Freedom 100, avoiding a dramatic accident, also at his first Indy Lights race.
2008 Markus Niemela, Andreas Wirth, Tom Sutherland
The team won the Championship with Markus Niemela, following his wins at the two final races. First title win by a Finnish driver. Markus was also named Rookie of the Year. Team Engineer, Nick Harvey, was named Engineer of the Year. Duarte Fidalgo was named Mechanic of the Year.
2007 Kevin Lacroix, Tengyi Jiang, Joe D’Agostino
Best finish – Lacroix won at Portland
2006 Alex Sperafico (became a ChampCar driver); Carlos Mastretta; Norbert Siedler; Luis Schiavo
"The Season of Rookies"
2005 Andreas Wirth (also became a ChampCar driver); Al Unser III; Fernando Rees
Best finish – Team’s first win at Denver with Andreas Wirth; Wirth and Unser finished 6th and 7th in the overall standings
2004 Ronnie Bremer (went on to become a ChampCar driver); Al Unser III (grandson of Al Unser); Tonis Kasemets and Dan Pappas (voted New Zealand’s Bachelor of the Year)
Best finish – 2nd place at Milwaukee by Ronnie Bremer.
